Description
Registration begins today at 9:30 AM for students entering grade 6 and up this fall to sign up to work as a Teen Volunteer for the Library's Summer Reading program. Space is limited and a minimum of 10 volunteer hours is required. There's something for everyone - working at the Summer Reading Club registration desk, helping with crafts, book reviews, programs and more! BRING YOUR SUMMER CALENDAR SO YOU'LL KNOW WHEN YOU'RE AVAILABLE TO HELP!! Please register for only ONE of our two training sessions! Attendance at a training session is required for all participants in the Teen Summer Volunteer Training Program.

Description
For children in grades K-5; registration required and begins one week prior to program. Sunflowers were special to famous Dutch artist, Vincent Van Gogh, who painted in the mid-to-late 1800s. Yellow was the color of happiness for him and in the Netherlands, sunflowers were a symbol of loyalty and devotion. Young artists will make a drawing using oil pastels, inspired by Van Gogh's masterpiece.
Please wear something you don't mind getting dirty.

Description
Welcome to the Space Jam ...

6th to 8th graders are invited to the library after hours to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the movie Space Jam! We'll watch the movie, eat pizza and snacks, and play games.

Weather permitting, we may venture outside for games, so please plan accordingly. During the movie, you can sit in a chair or camp out on the floor, so bring a blanket/sleeping bag!

Description
Learn how to create your own henna body art!

Gayatri Hingwala-Swali will demonstrate henna techniques for you to try, and attendees will work together to apply their original and unique designs!

Materials to be used include all natural, organic products. Please wear clothing that you don't mind staining, and be aware that your Henna design may last several weeks - choose placement wisely.

Description
Learn the basics of playing guitar from members of local band, Darling Valley! The instructors will work with the group to review what beginners need to know, and will help each participant develop their skills for the future.

Participants must bring a guitar with them. It is also recommended that you bring your own tuners/cables, but it is not required.


When you register, please indicate the following in the "notes" field:

1. If you will bring an electric or acoustic guitar (please note that you will need to bring an amp and cables if you plan to use an electric guitar for this workshop),

2. One (or more) thing you are hoping to learn from the instructors (example: I am hoping to learn how to read tabs; I am hoping to learn how to play certain chords), and

3. Any previous experience you might have.

Come enjoy the antics of juggler/beatboxer/comedian Jester Jim and celebrate your summer of reading with the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library on Wednesday, August 12 at 7 PM. This is a drop-in program for families with children ages 3 and up.


Beginning Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10:00 AM SRC K-5 Readers who have met or exceeded the challenge to read 500 minutes over a minimum of 25 days can collect their 2015 awards: a certificate of completion, a book from the Summer Reader Rewards Collection and a super hero poster.


Remember, even if you've reached the 500 minute goal, keep on reading! Come to the Library and talk about books you've read and restock your book supply.

The Summer Reading Club for children entering grades K-5 (SRC K-5) encourages reading for the fun of it, but also helps maintain reading skills over the summer. The Library offers creative, engaging programs to enhance the SRC experience.

Register online or come to the Library any time on or after June 22.


Update this electronic log OR track your minutes on paper at home, then come to the Library to have teen volunteers or staff log your reading time online.

Speak with a teen volunteer about any book you're reading and pick a prize from our SRC K-5 Treasure Chest, and enter the weekly book raffle. It's so easy (one entry per week).


SRC K-5 program and prize redemption ends Sunday, August 30.
