Call or visit the Adult Reference Desk to schedule an appointment. Registration began Jan. 3 and will continue until all appointments are claimed.

Bleeding Control Basics (B-Con)

Signup is for both programs with a short break in between.

Bleeding Control Basic (B-Con) is designed for laypeople with little or no medical training, and teaches what to do if called upon to assist trauma patients while waiting for EMS. Hands-Only CPR is designed to encourage bystander CPR in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in a public setting. You will learn how to recognize SCA, how to perform high quality chest compressions and how to utilize an automated external defibrillator (AED). Classes are given by Colby Rowe, Pre-hospital Outreach Coordinator from the Stony Brook Trauma Center, with support from the Setauket Fire District and the Heart Institute at Stony Brook Medicine. These are not certification classes.

AARP’s Tax-Aide volunteers continue to provide free tax assistance to low- and moderate- income seniors. The volunteers are trained to complete only basic tax forms and to answer tax questions. Taxpayers must bring last year’s federal and state returns, W-2 forms, SSA-1099, and all 1099 forms received in addition to both photo ID and social security card for each taxpayer listed on their tax return. Call or visit the Adult Reference Desk to schedule an appointment. Registration began Jan. 3 and will continue until all appointments are claimed.

Knit for a Cause - Volunteer Opportunity

Earn 6 hours of community service credit by knitting
two washcloths to be donated to a local family care center. We will include a nice bar of bath soap to be wrapped in the cloths. Yarn and pattern will be supplied. To participate you must have some knitting experience and bring a pair of size 4, 8”- long knitting needles. You must attend both sessions to receive your certificate.
