Public School Superhero
Author
James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts
Review
Kenny Wright is entering middle school in Washington D.C. It's old, overcrowded, not enough books and the teachers seem to have given up. It's so bad that every month they get a new principal. He gets bullied in school. It's hard for him as his dad was a police officer killed in the line of duty and he is being raised by his grandmother. In order to deal with everything his invokes his alter ego Stainlezz Steel. Lots of things happen in this book but I liked that Kenny knows how to play chess and as is obligated to teach Ray-Ray chess as part of his detention. I like Mr. Patterson's books and this was no exception.

The Great Gatsby

Honestly, this book has to be one of my favorite books of all time. I love the book and the movie in 2013 executed it very nicely. Love how Fitzgerald illustrates the destruction of someone's dreams despite them being so close to achieve it (like the American Dream). I truly love Gatsby, although he has his faults you have to admire the great amount of ambition that he had to try to win over Daisy's heart.

Honestly...I don't know what to feel about this book. It's not a bad read, you just gotta get used to the writing styles a bit between the two characters Joey and Dorothy. Although the author says she connected it to the Wizard of Oz, I relatively see no connection or allusion besides the character's name and quotes that are stated in the beginning of each part. Beside the writing style, the love story started way too fast like on the fifth page. Too rushed. I don't hate the characters but I don't love them either. Joey I would say is the one with the most depth and the author definitely emphasizes more on him than Dorothy. If you like romance, you could give this book a shot but there are better romance novels out there like the Perfect Chemistry series, Sarah Dessen's books and Stephanie Perkin's books. Solid 3 stars
