Description:
We're excited to team up with the Jazz at Lincoln Center education department to present free rebroadcasts of selected live performances from this season, featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and a local Jazz Ambassador.

The January concert is "John Lewis." The legacy of masterful pianist and composer John Lewis lives on in this incredible performance. From the enchanting musical universe he wove during his time with the seminal Modern Jazz Quartet, to his ambitious large-scale works, John Lewis forged unforgettably melodic, harmonically adventurous pieces that effortlessly fused many worlds of Jazz and Blues expression together.

Newcomers to Lewis’ music will quickly dive into the world of this master, while longtime fans will be astonished at the new insights presented in this show. His most-beloved work, “Django,” receives a gorgeous solo piano treatment by the show’s guest, star pianist Jonathan Batiste. Other works like “2 Degrees East, 3 Degrees West” receive exceptional big band treatments, drawing out the deep grooves that underpin his works, while more experimental works of Lewis’, like “Pulcinella,” are explored in thrilling big band explosions.
