Be sure to register for the Adult Summer Reading Club and sign in regularly to log the books that you have read. Each library will be doing weekly prize drawings and have a grand prize drawing at the end for those who have participated in the reading club. Contact your library for more information.

Summer Concert Series at the Steele Memorial Library

Our annual CCLD Friends Summer Concert Series gets underway in July on the Elmira Promenade, outside the Steele Memorial Library – RAIN or SHINE. Concerts will begin at 7:00pm and are free and open to all ages.

Featured performers are:

  • July 5- Choro Novo Duo who describes their style as chamber music meeting jazz. Ben Sher and Larry Corban are veteran guitarists fluent in the classic jazz. Corban has appeared in Broadway shows including Spider Man, Motown, All Shook Up, Mary Poppins.

  • July 12- Celtic Lyrical Music will be performed by “Cuisle mo Chroi” pronounced “cushla ma chree.” The name is Gaelic for “Pulse of My Heart.” Cathy McGrath, Pat Carey, and Mary Lester have been playing traditional and contemporary music of Ireland since 1989.

  • July 19- RUST, a popular classic rock band from the Southern Tier consists of local professional musicians. They’ve have been a part of the areas’ music scene since the 70s.

  • July 26- The Hepcats come from diverse backgrounds, many different musical experiences and range in age from mid-teens to ‘the golden years.’ The band is dedicated to promoting the education and preservation of big band music and its history. Wherever the Hepcats play, ballroom dancers follow!

Bring your family, friends and comfortable chairs. If it rains, concerts will be held in the library.

These concerts are made possible through a generous contribution from the Friends of the Chemung County Library District.

Tai-Chi Classes at Horseheads

Coming in mid-July: Stay tuned for our upcoming five week summer Tai-Chi class taught by Julie Spicer. Classes will begin Mid-July. Call the Horseheads Free Library after July 7 for more information!

Digital Media Lab Certification Classes at Steele

Become certified to use the Digital Media Lab - Learn how to record a video, edit the video and use a green screen to add background effects. If you need a different class time, let us know. You must have a parent present if you are under 16. Once you have completed the certification class, you can use the Digital Media Lab at Steele independently.
